On 28th February 1942 major J.D. Frost landed here with his C-company of the 2nd battalion of the British Parachute Regiment. The objective of this Operation "Biting" was to study and destroy the German radar installations on Cap d'Antifer. They took technical manuals and electronic parts. The later lieutenant colonel John Frost was during the Operation Market Garden leading the spearhead of the 1st Airborne Division holding the bridge at Arnhem. Following his capture, Frost was held as a prisoner of war at Spangenberg and later at a hospital in Obermassfeldt. He was freed when the area was overrun by allied troops in March 1945. He was awarded a bar to his DSO on 20 September 1945 for his leadership at Arnhem. |
