Port en Bessin

This port (Wn 56) became well known after the war, as the actions of the battle for the casino at Ouistreham in the "Longest Day" were filmed here. In wartime the Germans built various small bunkers on both sides of the harbour.

This picture was taken from the high north-bank. You can see the old brick tower, as used in the movie, low on the other bank. Up goes a path to a few small bunkers. At the horizon you can see the remains of the artifcial harbour at Arromanches.
