The Germans used this facility for the production of the "N-stoff". This is the codename for the fuel for the V-weapon V2 (chlorine trifluoride). There was also a plan for experiments with the nerve gas sarin at this location. The German designation of the complex was Seewerk.
The actual German production was in a large bunker, deeply underground. After the war the bunker was transformed into a ABC-safe commandpost for the army of the GDR.
Beside the bunker many barracks, a watertower and three uitility towers remain.
