These are armoured turrets for the automatic 5cm grenadelauncher.
This modern weapon which could fire up to 120 shots a minute was
hard to eliminate due to the low profile.
The perfect strategical situation would be a combination of M19s
and MGs in armoured turrets.
The MGs would give direct fire while
the mortars could present incoming from
above so that the
enemy
would be forced to retreat to a safe distance.
The A1 version, 428P01, can
be found in a mortarbunker integrated
in the U-boatbunker at St. Nazaire, in
Oostende and Vlissingen.
The A version, so 420 mm armour, is called 39P8 and has a weight of 164 t.
